And today we tried to lift a soil peel of a section at Boltby Scar – using latex and a cloth backing. This is a technique used in the 1980s at West Heslerton, and used throughout Europe. But times have changed and so have the chemicals available – so fingers-crossed it works.
The excavated section shows the turf of the rampart of the hillfort and looks just like some of the art-architecture rammed earth walls created over the last few years by Rowland Keable and Martin Rauche.
