Romantic Moderns by Alexandra Harris – explores the 1930s and 1940s through its writers and painters.

As a cultural history of both place and time – its a big book with a lot of content, breadth and connections but it is one of those books that makes your spine tingle with its content, lovely writing and splendid images.  And all my ‘big’ heroes are there Paul Nash, Clough Williams Ellis, Evelyn Waugh and yet more to come…
