Alliance for Sustainable Building Products – earth building and heritage structures

Wednesday – I was invited to the launch of the Alliance for Sustainable Building Products (ASBP), representing Earth Building UK (EBUK), hosted by the MP Margaret Ritchie at the House of Commons.

The ASBP is a really important initiative concerned with adopting a suite of methodologies to develop standards and eco-labels for building products. Bringing transparency to decision making and providing a methodology that is product-specific. This will enable us to cut through the ‘greenwash’ in a market where at the moment everything can be ‘green’ and ‘eco’. The ASBP will be the UK certification arm of the ‘Naturplus’ label – this label moves beyond simple energy-rated categories to environmental alongside social sustainability.

Present at the launch were a whole raft of different individuals and interest bodies, including the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB), Strawworks, Clayworks, Earth Building UK, The Good Homes Alliance, Passivhaus Trust and Wilmott Dixon among many others.

Neil May of the ASBP will be talking at the Earth Building UK conference in January 2012.
